Portsmouth and Hampton Court

Another busy day!  This morning we left Brighton beach and headed off to another town on the southern tip of England called Portsmouth.  We were able to see many different museums and historic sites.  For example, we saw the Mary Rose, which is a ship that was used in the 1500's, Henry VIII's time!  We did a boat tour around the harbor and found out a lot about the Royal Navy.  There was also an old retired boat that was in use in the 1800's that was turned into a museum!  We could walk through four floors of the ship, and everything was displayed as it would have been while the ship was being used.  I also had some of the best fish and chips so far right here on the coast.  Fantastic!!!  After that, we climbed back onto the coach and drove to Hampton Court, which was a palace used by many of the royal families of England, including the Georgians, Henry VIII, William III, Cardinal Woolsey, and many others.  It was HUGE, and the gardens were even bigger!  Part of the gardens was designed as a maze it was actually really difficult to navigate!  Eventually, we did finish.  At about 6:00 we all got back on the bus and began the trek home!  A note about the bus driver though: he was my least favorite of all the drivers that we have had so far.  He kept using the microphone and talking really loudly, almost the entire time we were on the bus!  A lot of us were tired and trying to sleep, or doing the reading for class tomorrow, but he just kept on talking.  Finally, we got so annoyed that one of our professors kindly asked him to stop... I felt bad, but really, it needed to happen.  Anyways, that concludes our final day trip/overnight trip in London!  Our last few days will be spent here in the city!  We had better make them count. :)

Morning on the beach: making every second count!

HMS Victoria- Portsmouth

The Mary Rose was underwater at the bottom of the ocean for over 500 years, and was discovered about 50 years ago.  When they saw this cannon, they were able to identify the ship and recover as much as they could of the ship.

The remains of the Mary Rose.  The wood there is the original decks, and this is how it would have been arranged.

Aboard the tour boat!

Hampton Court

I would like one of these someday... They had an entire room!  Unfortunately it was being renovated, so we couldn't see the actual room. :/

Famous picture of King Henry VIII...

The Royal Tennis Courts!

We were lucky enough to see people hitting back and forth!

Inside the maze.

The Center of the Maze!  We did it!
